The Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Company recently launched China's first domestic 7,500-car LNG dual-fuel auto carrier from Xiamen last week. The Liaohekou vessel carried over 1,000 Chinese-branded vehicles as well as engineering machinery bound for Le Havre (France), Southampton (U.K.), Zeebrugge (Belgium) and Bremerhaven (Germany). China's auto transport fleet is expanding alongside the push of Chinese auto brands into international markets.

Local officials announced recently that more than 15 different types of exhibitions are slated to take place this month in Xiamen. the Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center recently hosted the Xiamen International New Power Grid Equipment Exhibition, which focusied on distribution grids, energy storage and energy materials.

The Xiamen International Lighting Exhibition kicks off today at the Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center. The three-day exhibition covers 20,000 square meters and features over 500 domestic and international exhibitors.

The Xiamen International Construction Machinery and Auto Parts Exhibition and Wheeled Excavator Equipment Expo opens tomorrow at the Xiamen International Expo Center. The three-day event will showcase construction machinery and heavy truck accessories.

Additionally, about 10 animation-themed exhibitions will also be held in Xiamen this month.

From January through May, Xiamen hosted 64 exhibitions covering a collective 955,000 square meters, up 76.5 percent year-on-year to a record high. The city also hosted more than 1,700 meetings with a total of 315,000 attendees, up 3.7 percent year-on-year. The meetings notched an estimated 11.7 billion yuan in economic benefits, up year-on-year by 37.6 percent.

Xiamen expands AV industry base

The National Radio and Television Administration recently approved the expansion of the China (Xiamen) Intelligent Audiovisual Industry Base. The expansion will incorporate the Media Group Building in Haicang into the management and operation of the base. The base features a new multi-area development model alongside the Xiamen Software Park core area, a film and television shooting base and the Haicang expansion area.

Charity Restaurant program expands to 81 sites

Xiamen recently awarded ceremonial plaques to its third batch of 15 charity restaurants. Representatives of the local party committee and of the city of Xiamen said that the public welfare initiative serves to enhance the development of a compassionate city and to address practical issues for its residents. Since the charity restaurant program launched in 2022, 66 restaurants have provided approximately 19,000 charity meals. The most recent set of restaurants expands the program to 81 establishments.

XiamenAir expands service to Jakarta

XiamenAir recently debuted a new flight to Jakarta. Flight MF837 departs Xiamen at 6:05 p.m. and arrives at 10:30 p.m. (local times). Return flight MF838 departs Jakarta at 11:30 p.m. and arrives in Xiamen at 6:20 a.m. the following day. XiamenAir also operates a morning flight from Xiamen to Jakarta and an afternoon flight from Jakarta to Xiamen. Airline representatives said the new pair of flights will offer travelers more flexibility and flight options.

Winning bids announced for new cross-sea Jiageng Bridge

The official website of the Municipal Public Resources Trading Center last week announced the winning bid results for the Jiageng Bridge (the Xiamen Cross East China Sea Passage Project). The Xiamen Highway Development Center will serve as the construction unit. The Xiamen Road and Bridge Baicheng Construction Investment Company will act as the construction agency.

Preliminary planning for the bridge began in 2019. The 21-kilometer bridge will feature a total investment of approximately 19 billion yuan. A feasibility review, joint evaluation, opinion collection from districts and units along the bridge, landscape planning and preliminary designs have already been completed.

Water release begins for upcoming Pusheng sluice

Worked wrapped up recently on the underwater structure of the Pusheng sluice, which will become Xiamen's largest when complete. Workers released water into the cofferdam that had surrounded the sluice during construction. The next phase of the project will involve above-water and onshore construction.

The project will increase the storage of fresh water by approximately six million cubic meters. Authorities said it will also minimize tidal invasions, improve the surrounding groundwater resources along the river and alleviate soil salinization.

XM rolls out more than 580 streetside sunshades

Local traffic authorties announced recently the installation of more than 580 streetside sunshades in Siming and Huli. The sunshades provide cover for passersby at local scenic spots and main intersections as well as on a number of primary and secondary roads.

Police officials added that older sunshades will be periodically replaced during routine patrols. The shades can be temporarily removed during extreme weather conditions such as typhoons.

90K+ passengers transit Xiamen Portas summer travel begins

Customs officials at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport announced last week that more than 90,000 inbound and outbound passengers transited the airport between July 1 and July 7, the first week of the summer travel season. The highest single-day count reached nearly 14,000 transits.

Deputy Station Chief Chen Jinlai noted that passenger flows are expected to increase over the next two months. Outbound travel tends to peak in mid- to late-July while returns peak in mid-August.

Industry analysts noted that summer travel numbers are boosted by mainland groups traveling abroad for study tours and summer camps. Family trips also account for a portion of the summer boom.

Xiamen leads Chinain aircraft maintenance

Local customs official announced that 211 aircraft visited the Xiamen airport for inbound and outbound maintenance in the first half of the year, maintaining the airport's nationwide lead in aircraft maintenance. Representatives of the Global (Xiamen) One-Stop Aviation Maintenance Base announced last week that all of its six double-wide hangars were simultaneously occupied.

Li Zhenglin, the general manager of the Xiamen Aviation Industry Company, noted that the local aviation maintenance base hosts nine aviation maintenance companies, including Taikoo Aircraft and ST Engineering Aerospace Technologies. Approximately 80 percent of orders come from abroad.

Gulangyu Music Festival kicks off

The annual Gulangyu Music Festival kicked off last weekend and runs through 22. All events during the festival are open to the public free of charge. Ticket reservations are now available. The festival includes nine concerts at the Gulangyu Concert Hall. Nicoletta Mantovani, the widow of the renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti, will lead a group of singers and pianists in a performance of Mr. Pavarotti's classic repertoire.
